Dr Louis du Plessis is a Senior Lecturer and registered professional architect at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), where he is currently seconded as the Quality Specialist for Postgraduate Studies in the Directorate for Research and Postgraduate Support. He was initially seconded to the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement from 2024 to 2025, with this role subsequently realigned into the Directorate in 2026.
His current responsibilities span postgraduate quality assurance as well as institutional research development, with a focus on policy, systems, and process innovation across the research ecosystem. He has played a central role in the procurement and implementation of research management platforms, including project and workflow management systems and research information management solutions, supporting improved integration, data governance, and operational efficiency.
Dr du Plessis previously served as Head of the Department of Architecture at DUT (2016–2024), where he provided academic leadership in programme design, teaching, and quality assurance. He holds a Doctorate in Architecture and Urban Planning from Gdańsk University of Technology (2024), and has over a decade of experience in architectural education, supervision, and postgraduate examination.
His work bridges academic practice and institutional strategy, with a particular interest in strengthening research supervision, enhancing data-informed decision-making, and advancing postgraduate success. He is a recipient of the 2024 DUT Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Award for Teaching with Technology.
